Peña Dates For 2016
March 13 Un Noche con MaribelThe Peña is honouring prominent dancer Maribel la Manchega with a tribute performance on Sunday, March 13 to celebrate her 30 years as Peña president and her long career as a professional artist and teacher.April 10 TBA
The Peña itself is now in its 31st year and was the idea of some of Maribel's students, who invited others to help set it up and thus was formed the initial working party. Almost all were dance students of Maribel, and José Garcia too, though there were two guitarists, Ron le Voi and Harry New.
After six months it was decided that the working party would open membership and hold elections for a committee. Maribel was invited to become president, and later world-famous guitarist Paco Peña joined her. As soon as she set foot in London Maribel assumed prominence as a flamenco artist, a situation that lasted until her retirement. Don't miss Un Noche con Maribel! It will be at Holy Apostles Church Hall, time not yet fixed.
